Follow up: Northern National Softball Tournament.

NORTH PLATTE Neb.- There is no doubt that the tournament turned to be a success for North Platte and this was

North Platte’s first “rodeo” as North Platte was awarded the Northern National Tournament by the American Softball Association after putting in the bid three years ago.

A clip of North Platte Post’s interview with Executive Director of North Platte/Lincoln County Convention & Visitors Bureau Lisa Burke:

A release from Executive Director of North Platte/Lincoln County Convention & Visitors Bureau references comments like

  • “Awesome tournament…the best we’ve been to”
  • “Excellent Facility…the best we’ve seen all year”
  • “Great to see a tournament run by community, not just a committee”
  • “We’ll be back”

Such comment adds a great deal of pride to North Platte. Three years ago when the NNT was hosted, organizations such as the PVGSA, The City of North Platte, Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation and the Lincoln County Convention & Visitors Bureau came together to bring $100,000 into improvements of both Dowhower and Cody Park softball complexes, truly a worthy investment that even allows North Platte to bid on more events and have a nice place for competition.

This year many North Platte businesses saw great opportunity for investment, sponsoring the tournament with a combined total of $36,500. The reinvestment according to the release was $70,000, not too shabby!

Using a formula provided by the National Association of Sports Commissions, organizers were able to calculate the non local spending in North Platte as a result of the Northern National Tournament. Tournament attendees brought in a whopping $1,398,695 into the North Platte economy, resulting in $62,717 in tax revenue.
