An Oscar-winning director is planning to shoot much of his new movie in Nebraska.
Alexander Payne, who directed “About Schmidt,” ”Sideways,” and “The Descendants,” said filming of his next movie — tentatively called “Nebraska” — will begin this October.
The movie will star Bruce Dern and Bill Forte in the story of a father and his estranged son travelling from Montana to Lincoln, Neb.
Payne says his production crew will be based in Norfolk during filming.
Payne is from Omaha and has shot parts of several other movies in the state.
Laurie Richards with the Nebraska Film Office says the film should provide an economic boost to the state because Payne plans to hire local actors and crews when possible.
