Doris Ethel Ann Bauman, 86, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital on August 29, 2012, in Gothenburg, NE.
Doris was born on November 5, 1925. She grew up on a farm near Walton, NE, and graduated from Walton High School. She lived there until 1947 when she moved to Lincoln to attend Lincoln School of Commerce. On June 21, 1947, she married Donald Richard Bauman at Trinity Lutheran Church near Walton, NE. In 1948, she moved to Gothenburg, where she made her home for the rest of her life. Doris and Don were married for 65 years and to that union four children were born – Susan Rae, Mitchel Don, Georgia Ann, and Joel Dean. Doris was a beloved wife and mother. She worked at National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln and the Sewing Basket in Gothenburg. She belonged to numerous bridge clubs and a weaver’s guild. She loved sewing, quilting, knitting, crafts, and she was a talented weaver. She collected antique Fiesta Ware dishes and pretty napkins. She loved to play poker, bridge, and 21.
Surviving are her husband, Donald R. Bauman of Gothenburg, NE, two daughters – Susan (Dan) Malloy, Georgia (Steve) Reeves; two sons – Mitchel (Cindy) Bauman, Joel (Kim) Bauman; brother – Merle Retzlaff; sister – Donna Jahde; grandchildren – Jeremy Baeckel, Micah, Patrick and Tiani Reeves, Zachary (Azra), Abbie (Chris Signore), Jessica and Harlee Bauman, Colton, Carly, and Cameron Bauman; great grandchildren – Brandon and Courtney Baeckel and Zara Bauman, along with many nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel Retzlaff, and her brother, Dale Retzlaff.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska, on Friday, August 31, 2012, 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with her family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
