While visiting sister cities..Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle feels tired and dehydrated…goes to hospital…

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle is on his way back to the United States after spending several days in an Irish hospital.

The mayor’s office says Suttle should be back in Omaha either late Monday or early Tuesday morning.

Suttle was hospitalized in Ireland on Friday after he complained that he wasn’t feeling well.

Suttle had been on a 10-day tour of three European countries where Omaha has sister cities before he became ill.

Doctors at the hospital in Naas, Ireland, found the mayor was tired, dehydrated and had a spike in blood pressure. Suttle plans to visit his own doctor when he returns home.

Gov Dave Heineman says his trip to china helped make Nebraska more well known

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman says his weeklong trip to China helped increase the state’s visibility to Chinese officials, who are more familiar with U.S. coastal states.

Heineman said Monday that the visit helped strengthen Nebraska’s relationship with China and laid the groundwork for future business growth. But he said it’s only part of a longer-term relationship that needs to develop.

The trip included several agreements between Nebraska and the Chinese government, including a “sister state” relationship between Nebraska and the Shaanxi Province, and a new trade office in Shanghai.

Heineman says he emphasized the quality of Nebraska businesses during his talks with Chinese officials, and he made sure they knew that world-famous investor Warren Buffett hails from Omaha.

Oak Creek Sikh temple shooter is a “skinhead”

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) — The man who opened fire in a Wisconsin Sikh temple posted frequent comments on Internet forums for skinheads, repeatedly exhorting members to act more decisively to support their cause.

A day after Wade Michael Page’s attack, authorities were trying to determine why the 40-year-old Army veteran targeted total strangers in a house of worship.

Detectives cautioned they might never know for sure. But the picture of Page that began to develop suggested he was a white supremacist who wanted to see his beliefs advanced with action.

Page, who was shot to death by police, described himself as a member of the “Hammerskins Nation,” a skinhead group rooted in Texas that has branches in Australia and Canada.

Olympic Update – Day Twelve

Redemption is on the line for American Lolo Jones in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, one of the highest profile events in prime time tonight. Jones was the favorite in the event in Beijing in 2008 but hit one of the last hurdles and finished off the podium. She turned in the second-fastest first-round time yesterday and hopes to be able to go for gold today in London. Other track and field finals that will be shown in prime time are the men’s 1500 meters and the men’s high jump. The final gymnastics events are held today as well – the men’s high bar and parallel bars, and the women’s balance beam and floor exercise. Americans have medal chances in the women’s events – Jordyn Wieber competes on the floor, Gabby Douglas on the beam, and Aly Raisman in both events. USA women’s basketball and volleyball compete in quarterfinal matches today as well.

Husker Camp Update – First Evening Practice Held

It was the first of many practices under the lights last night for the Husker football team, as their second session of the fall took place in the evening. Defensive coordinator John Papuchis explained the reasoning behind moving some of the practices this fall away from the middle of the day. “It gets them off their feet during the day,” Papuchis said. “They have a lot of meeting time during the day, which I think is crucial, obviously. And it gets us out of the hottest time of the day. They’ve had a tough summer working in the heat all summer long. Anything we can do to back off that a little bit will pay dividends in October and November we think.” The Huskers practiced for just under two hours. Cornerback Mo Seisay, a highly-touted junior college transfer expected to start this year, missed Monday’s workout with a knee injury. He’s expected to miss a few more days. The Huskers are back on the practice field tonight.
