Really? 120-112=8 … Letters To the Post..

Dear North Platte Post,

ARE YOU FOR REAL? If you cannot figure out the difference between 20 and 12 then you should NOT be handling money at the register. Epic Fail JCP.

So I was paying at JCPenney, the bill was $112 even. She asked if I would be paying with cash, check or credit card. I said cash, she hit the total button or whatever ends the transaction and the drawer popped open. She said “that’ll be $112 even”. I handed the clerk $120. She took the money, counted it, put it in the drawer and walked away without closing the drawer. She walked to another register to get a CALCULATOR. Seeing what she was doing I told her, “it’s 8”. Apparently me talking messed her up because she had to hit the clear key several times and start over. I told her again “it’s 8” and she ignored me a second time. Set the calculator down which was showing a big fat 8 and handed me back $8.

Seriously……….

Rockies ‘Restructure’ Front Office

DENVER (AP) – The Colorado Rockies have restructured front office responsibilities with assistant general manager Bill Geivett being given more day-to-day duties with the major league club while general manager Dan O’Dowd focuses on player development.

Geivett will still report to O’Dowd, who has been GM since September 1999. The Rockies have reached the playoffs twice in his tenure and are on pace for the worst season in franchise history.

Owner Dick Monfort said in a statement, “We are constantly looking for ways to improve our organization, and we feel that Bill’s influence and leadership on a daily basis is an important addition to our major league club.”

Geivett joined the Rockies as assistant GM in 2000 and was named senior vice president of scouting and development in January 2011.

Meanwhile in Kansas…Two arrested in Wal-Mart…You won’t believe this

(KANSAS)-At a Wal-mart in Kansas all seemed normal until a couple entered the building and began to engage in a very primal act.

Julian Call age 22 and Tina Gianakon age 35 grabbed a sexual lubricant called K-Y Jelly from the shelf and began to test it out. Officers were told by witnesses that the pair had been openly fondling each other in-front of the many people shopping at the Hutchinson, KS Wal-Mart.

In addition court complaints accuse the two of engaging “in sexual intercourse or sodomy with any person or animal with knowledge or reasonable anticipation that the participants are being viewed by another.”

The two “love bugs” were arrested on theft of the product, and lewd and lascivious behavior.

Also the two were completely sober.

Semi transporting 225 head of swine abandoned in North Platte, one perishes (UPDATED)

UPDATE:

Stanley M. Frye bonded out of the Lincoln County Detention Center around 2 PM today in regards to his Cruelty to Livestock charge after posting bond, 10% of $5,000.00.  Lincoln County Court has issued authorization to release the remaining hogs and payment of approximately $1,518.00 to the City of North Platte for expenses incurred in the management and caring of the livestock.  The swine will be loaded and continue to their destination, Jim’s Farms Meat in Winton, CA later this evening after temperatures have cooled.

(NORTH PLATTE) (N.P.P.D.)-At around 12:43 PM on 07/31/12 Officers and Animal Control Officers responded to the area of South Bend Rd. near West North River Rd. on the report of a semi truck and attached livestock trailer broken down at that location.  Officers learned that the trailer had been parked at that location since around 9 AM due to mechanical problems.  The trailer also contained around 225 head of swine in various states of distress.  The semi driver and suspect, Stanley M. Frye told officers that had picked up the load of pigs around 1130 PM on 07/30/12 from their broker in Iowa and were in route to California to unload.  Frye told police that the semi suffered mechanical problems, which forced him and another passenger to stop at the above location and attempt to repair the truck.  They were waiting on parts for the semi when officers first made contact.  The parts were finally delivered to them at around 230 PM.  Due to the lack of air, breeze and water, members from the North Platte Fire Department were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to cool the animals with water.  Pigs are known to have inadequate sweat glands.  At around 2 PM it was approximately 95 degrees Fahrenheit with very little wind.

Following a joint investigation between NPPD, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Nebraska State Patrol it was determined that there was probable cause to arrest Frye for Abandonment or Cruel Neglect to Livestock 54-903, (I Mis).  Frye was cited for Driving Under Suspension and at least one other carrier violation.

Eventually the semi was repaired and the swine transported to the Lincoln County Fair Grounds, where they are currently being cared for and kept.  Dr. Rick Keeten, of the North Platte Vet Clinic and members of the Lincoln County Fair Board also aided in assessing and caring for the live stock.  At the time of this press release only one animal has perished.   Efforts are being made to determine their future destination.

Hospital Board Chair David Pederson says in a statement:

“What is being presented here today is by far the largest locally owned undertaking in the history of this region. “

GPRMC wants to take advantage of the beautiful state of Nebraska by adding features that make the beautiful skies of the state shine, as well as other features to integrate into the design like the sand-hills and with the tower design there will be more natural light shining through. The landscape will also feature a healing garden .

Additionally all services will continue throughout the construction. A high priority will be placed on directional flow of patients and providing parking for visitors and patients. A new temporary main entrance will be located east of the current entrance. Susan G. Komen grants $65,000 award to train more breast cancer advocates

(OMAHA) The Nebraska Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has awarded the University of Nebraska Medical Center a $65,000 grant that will train 10 to 15 more advocates to help women get appropriate early detection, treatment and follow-up breast cancer services.

The Community Breast Health Navigator and Cancer Support Program is designed to provide support for women being evaluated for, or undergoing diagnosis and treatment for, breast cancer at any hospital or clinic. Women trained as volunteer navigators can accompany women to appointments in Douglas County before proceeding with diagnostic or treatment recommendations.

The program is looking for women dealing with breast cancer who could benefit from the free program, as well as those who wish to be volunteer navigators.

Navigators serve as a second set of ears for patients and advise them on the best approaches they have learned are needed to obtain breast care that matches best practice national guidelines.

Last year, Komen funded a grant for $56,518, which trained 11 women. The program is the only one of its kind in the nation, said Edibaldo Silva, M.D., Ph.D., UNMC surgical oncologist and director of the navigator program.

“This program is unique in the nation. We are training navigators to recognize the best approaches to treating breast cancer,” Dr. Silva said. “It’s like bringing a family member or friend along to an appointment except the advocate is trained.

“Last year we had an overwhelming response from women in the community who stepped forward to be volunteer advocates. Now we want to train more. The program originally addressed disparities in African-American and Hispanic communities. It soon became clear that the issue of variation from best practice patterns is prevalent in all women.”

Co-directors of the grant, Phyllis Nsiah-Kumi, M.D., assistant professor of internal medicine, and Jackie Hill, a nurse practitioner in the UNMC College of Public Health and breast cancer survivor, said the grant also helps improve the health literacy of patients — the ability to understand health-related information and make informed decisions.

Navigators complete a rigorous training course that focuses on breast cancer care guidelines supported by the latest medical research and recommended by national experts, as well as how to effectively communicate with patients and health providers.
