Husker senior running back Rex Burkhead is not likely to play in Saturday’s game against Arkansas State at Memorial Stadium. Head coach Bo Pelini told the media after Thursday’s practice that Burkhead was “doubtful” for the game, which would mean a second straight week on the sidelines. Burkhead is still recovering from a strained MCL in his left knee suffered in the season opener, and Pelini has repeatedly said he wants to make sure his star is completely recovered before re-inserting him into the lineup. “I want to make sure he’s absolutely 100 percent,” Pelini said. “But you know, he’s chomping at the bit to get out there. We’ll see how the next 48 hours play out.” Pelini also confirmed that the team will shake up their defensive personnel, with linebackers David Santos and Zaire Anderson among those expected to get extended looks. Kickoff Saturday is set for 11 AM.
