Irene Nelson


Irene L. Nelson, age 88 of Paxton, passed away on Wednesday, September 19th at her home. Irene was born January 24, 1924, the daughter of Raul and Mary (Sale) Heiser. She attended District 6 School through the eighth grade and then graduated from the Paxton High School. After her graduation she attended the Grand Island School of Business.
Irene married Pershing Nelson on June 13, 1942 in Grand Island. To this union two children were born, Roxie and Raul. She and her husband operated Swede’s Bar and Café in Paxton for several years. Irene also had been employed at the Bank of Paxton and Crisp Telephone Company. She had been a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and had served on the Altar Guild for many years. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her family and friends playing bridge and computer games.
Irene was preceded in death by a sister, Lorna and her husband Pershing “Swede” Nelson. She is survived by her son Raul and wife Kay Nelson of Henderson, NV, daughter Roxie and husband Bruce Snyder of Paxton, sister Peggy and husband Jim Lawler of Paxton, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Paxton with Lay Minister JA Welsh and Pastor Judy Gifford officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell.
The casket will not be open. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church of the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department in her memory. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
