Rockies Beaten on Walk-Off in San Diego Slugfest

In a rare slugfest at San Diego’s PetCo Park, the Colorado Rockies fell to the Padres 12-11 yesterday afternoon. The Rockies jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage. Starting pitcher Alex White hit a three-run home run, his second dinger in as many starts, and Matt McBride hit a two-run blast for his first career homer. But the Padres battered two Rockies relievers for eight runs in the fifth to take an 11-5 lead. The Rockies answered in the eighth inning. Josh Rutledge capped a six-run frame with his first career grand slam to tie the score at 11. But after the Rockies squandered a two-on, no-out opportunity in the top of the ninth, the Padres walked off on Yonder Alonso’s single that scored Everth Cabrera. The Rockies continue their west-coast road swing tonight, opening a four-game series in San Francisco against the Giants.

Pelini Returns to Work Day After Hospital Visit

True to his word, Bo Pelini was back to work on Sunday, one day after he left the Huskers’ 42-13 victory over Arkansas State at halftime and was taken by ambulance to a Lincoln hospital. Precautionary tests were performed on Pelini, who issued a statement immediately after the game stating in part, “…everything checked out just fine. I plan to be back at work tomorrow. I’m proud of our team and coaching staff for the way they responded this afternoon.” Pelini is scheduled to address the media Monday afternoon.

State Wins Judgement Against Health Practitioner.. + Nearly $100K

A Lancaster County jury has awarded the state of Nebraska nearly $100,000 in a judgment against a Lincoln mental health practitioner for filing false Medicaid claims.

Lincoln are media outlets report that the jury awarded the state $99,785 on Friday.

The state sued Katherine Zupancic in 2010, alleging she billed state Medicaid about $85,000 worth of Medicaid claims for services she didn’t provide to Medicaid clients.

The lawsuit had sought double the damages, plus $5,000 per claim submitted before July 2004 and $10,000 per claim after.

Among other allegations, the lawsuit said Zupancic billed the state for providing services to someone when she actually was conducting training sessions elsewhere.

UP Offers Teachers Free Resources

Union Pacific is offering teachers a packet of free resources to help them explain the importance of the transcontinental railroad.

The resources were put together as part of the railroad’s celebration of its 150th anniversary.

The resources are designed to help teachers meet national standards for teaching about history and social studies in elementary and middle school.

The kit explains some of the challenges the railroad industry faced as it build the transcontinental railroad. The project began in 1862 after Abraham Lincoln signed the law that created Union Pacific and authorized construction. The transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869.

Teachers who want the free resources need to fill out a form on the railroad’s website, https://bit.ly/P8oPUd

Update On Missing Larry Sack, Unknown Body-Parts Found

September 8th, 2012

Approximately 30 boats and numerous citizens / rescue workers searched the NPPD Canal, Sutherland Inlet and Reservoir area for Mr. Sack.    Law enforcement to include Conservation Officers and Deputies were out in force looking with sonar, underwater cameras and long poles.  A citizen provided trained search dogs as well.   Citizens and the Lincoln County Sheriff and Posse rode the entire length of the NPPD Canal (6 miles) on horseback. Nothing found.

September 9th, 2012

Deputies and citizens in boats and ATV’s again searched the canal and lake for Mr. Sack, with no luck.  The investigation continues.

September 12th, 2012

The search continued today with Deputies and citizens.   Search dogs were deployed because of the damp conditions made it an optimal day for them.    Search dogs did indicated on the Sutherland Inlet area.     A search did not find Mr. Sack.

September 13th, 2012

At 11:47 am, Deputies were asked to respond to the Sutherland Inlet, searcher reported he had found a human leg and foot.    Deputies arrived, retrieved a human right foot and lower leg from the water.     A local Anthropologist was called to the scene and examined the leg.    After extensive examination it appears that the leg had been separated from the body by a boat propeller.    DNA testing will be completed in the near future to confirm the leg and foot belong to Mr. Sack.   It appears the current has moved Mr. Sack’s body from the NPPD Canal into the Sutherland Reservoir. Foul play is not suspected.

Sutherland Rescue was again called out and searched the Inlet and lake area.  Divers were deployed into parts of the Inlet as well as underwater cameras.    Sheriff Jerome Kramer and Deputies searched the inlet and lake in watercraft.    Additional support around shore lines was obtained from concerned citizens.     The Nebraska State Patrol deployed aircraft to the location as well.    By 8:30 pm the search was discontinued.  Mr. Sack has not been found.
