Maxwell Wildcat Sports Update – September 6

The Maxwell squads took some defeats last weekend, but they’re optimistic that things will improve moving forward. Hear what Maxwell football will try and do to bounce back against Elm Creek this week. Also, Lady Wildcat volleyball coach Lori Mau talks about the progress that her young team has made and what they must sharpen up to be competitive. People Don’t Realize How Fit Officers Really Are…

Here’s a report of a mini pursuit!

Just after the wink of midnight on Monday September 3rd officers were called to the 2300 block of East 5thstreet for a prior physical disturbance.

Officers spoke with the 35-year-old female victim. The victim alleged that the suspect and/or her domestic partner 33-year-old Robert “Robbie” Mills had assaulted her then left the residence in a vehicle with their children, while also being intoxicated.

Mills didn’t get far before officers found him at a Kwik-Stop on East 4th. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 300 block of N. Walnut.

Mills stopped…then put the pedal to the metal and took off.

After a very brief pursuit Mills called it quits and pulled over in an alley near the 500 block of East 6th. Mills got out of the car and ran away leading the officers on a foot pursuit.

The officers apprehended Mills near 5th and Cottonwood.

Officers found out the children Mills had in the car (ages 3 &4) we not buckled up during the -pursuit; also Mills had marijuana in his possession.

A release from Officer Rodney brown says

“The children were safely released to their mother after the investigation revealed no probable cause in regards to the initial domestic assault allegation.”

Officers found probable cause to arrest Mills for two counts of Child Abuse,  (IIIA Fel), Possession of Marijuana (> than 1 oz.)(III Mis), Resisting Arrest (I Mis), Motor Vehicle Flight to Avoid Arrest,(IV Fel) and Child Restraint Violation,(INF).

He was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and jailed.

Convicted Felon Commits a Felony

On Wednesday August 29th Officers from the North Platte Police Department went to the 400 block of South Sycamore after a report of  burglary was made.

The victim said he was missing four fire arms, a knife as well as $1000 cash.

On Tuesday September 4th officers received some information pointing to where the firearms may be. Investigation led officers to believe the stolen rifle is in the possession of convicted felon Troy Culpepper.

Alas a warrant was obtained so officers could search a vehicle found on the 400 block of N Ash that was believed to be involved in the crime. Inside the vehicle officers found a Steyr AUG .223 Caliber assault rifle and a knife that was similar to the one reported missing.

Culpepper was found shortly after in a residence near the vehicle. There was probable cause to arrest Culpepper for Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Class III Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, (Class 1D Felony) and Possession of Stolen Property,(Class II Mis.)

Culpepper was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.  Following further investigative efforts it was determined that there was probable cause to also charge Culpepper for Burglary, (III Fel).

20 Year Old Pleads No Contest In Death Of 14 Year Old

A man from Bartley Nebraska will be spending life in prison after he was convicted of killing a 14-year-old girl from McCook.

The 20-year-old Stathis Kirkpatrick was originally deemed mentally unfit to stand trial, but a judge found him competent to stand.

Kirkpatrick pleaded no contest to a first degree murder, earlier he pleaded not guilty to the murder and other charges of the young Kailee Clapp.

Clapp was found on the night of January 21st in 2011 at the Bartley Cemetery. That morning Clapp was reported missing from her home in McCook.

Omaha Man Fatally Wounded Wednesday

A developing story in Omaha about a 21-year-old man who was fatally wounded on Wednesday night is in the works.

Omaha police say Brandon Thomas was brought to Creighton University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Officers are investigating a report of a shooting at the area where Thomas was yesterday at 4:15 or so.

So far no arrests have been made, and no other details are available.

Man Tries To Hide Crack Cocaine In Sock, Sentenced 30 Years Prison

An Omaha man who was arrested in May for possession of crack-cocaine and driving on a suspended license has received 25 to 30 years in prison.

Police first arrested 53-year-old Raymond Marion for driving on a suspended license in Lincoln, but during a struggle with police a sock containing 10 grams of crack-cocaine, and $1,000 fell from his pocket.

Marion pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver, he was sentenced on Tuesday.

 

School Bus Fatally Collides Wednesday Night..Four Dead

A school bus carrying children ended up in a fatal accident Wednesday evening after colliding with a tractor-trailer in Blue Hill Nebraska.

The crash killed two children and driver of the bus who’s names have no been released and the truck driver 21-year-old Travis Witte. Four more children were injured.

The children ages 6 to 10 were taken to a hospital 20 miles north in Hastings, One was transferred to Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha.
Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said the truck was carrying hay. The truck stated on fire after the crash.

Weather: High Near 96, Low Tonight of 54..Breezy.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 96. South wind 14 to 17 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. Breezy, with a north wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Emergency Declared At First Home Game

The first home football game at the University of Nebraska Lincoln Sunday was hot, the temperature was so hot hundreds of people suffered heat-related problems needing medical attention.

The high temperature for September 1st was 95

An emergency was declared at the game as more than 300 people were seeking help in the near 100 degree temps. Around 30 to 40 members from the marching band were also those in need of help.

Triage area were set up and medical personnel were on scene.
The university’s associate athletic director for facilities and events says UNL officials are meeting with authorities to determine the best way to prevent or better handle emergencies.

Western Fires Nearly Contained

Fire officials say three massive fires in northwest Nebraska and southwest South Dakota have not grown and are nearly contained.

The fires in western Nebraska were 95% contained by Wednesday, and now freighters are patrolling the areas putting out hot spots to prevent more flames, while the fire in Nebraska and South Dakota was contained late Wednesday.

The blaze was sparked by lighting on August 28th, spreading quickly over the dry drought struck land. The flames were a threat to communities and required evacuation of hundreds of homes and farm buildings.
