25 Year Old Caught With 104 Pounds Of Pot

A 25-year-old Vermont man has been arrested on a drug charge in Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Nathaniel Miller, of Jericho, Vt., was driving a pickup east on Interstate 80 near Lincoln when he was pulled over just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The trooper says the pickup didn’t have a front license plate.

The trooper says Miller gave his permission to search the truck. The patrol says more than 104 pounds was found in packages hidden in the truck bed.

Miller faces a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. A Lancaster County jailer said Miller remained in custody on Tuesday. Online court records don’t yet list the case.

Omaha Banker Given 16 Months In Prison Over Fraud

An Omaha banker has been given 16 months in prison for mail fraud.

Michael Breault had pleaded guilty in April to six counts. He was sentenced last week.

Breault was vice president and director of Charter West National Bank when the fraud occurred between March 2005 and September 2009.

Authorities say Breault applied for nearly $600,000 in loans using names of people without their permission by forging signatures.

Prosecutors say Breault has already made restitution of $206,000 to the bank, and he’s been ordered to make addition restitution of more than $38,000 to Kingswood Athletic Association.

2nd annual Out of The Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk

Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on families, friends, co-workers, schools and the entire community. Sadly, every minute of every day, someone attempts to take their own life and every 15 minutes someone dies by suicide.

We need to know more about suicide and ways to prevent it. We also need to educate the public to recognize the symptoms of depression, especially in teenagers as they are a particularly vulnerable group.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is conducting The 2nd Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walks here in North Platte on September 22nd at Centennial Park to raise much needed funds for prevention and education. Portion of the funds raised will support distribution of AFSP’s new educational film More Than Sad: Teen Depression to area high schools to educate both students and teachers about teen depression and how to get help.

To learn more about the Out of the Darkness Community Walks visit www.outofthedarkness.org and for more information about the films visit www.morethansad.org.

My goal is to open a support group and bring Suicide prevention to North Platte and surrounding communities and to bring much needed education to the schools. I would like to have your help to complete these goals. The help needed is getting the word out about the walk and get walkers or team to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The Walk takes place September 22nd @ 10:30 am. Registration is from 9:00am to 10:00 am or you can preregister at outofthedarkness.org

Burkhead Questionable for Saturday With Knee Injury

Husker senior running back Rex Burkhead is questionable for Saturday’s road clash against UCLA. Burkhead sprained the MCL in his left knee in the first quarter of last Saturday’s 49-20 defeat of Southern Miss and did not return to the game. Husker head coach Bo Pelini said in his weekly press conference that Burkhead is day-to-day and said that he still plans to have Burkhead travel to Los Angeles at this point. Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross combined for 145 yards on 26 carries in Burkhead’s absence. In other Husker injury news, wide receiver Tim Marlowe had surgery to repair a broken clavicle. Pelini said the surgery went well, but expects Marlowe to be out at least until the end of October. Pelini also mentioned that tight end Ben Cotton, who also left Saturday’s contest with an injury, will be good to go for the UCLA game.
