Dorthe Marie Jensen, age 90 formerly of Chappell, NE, passed away October 14, 2012 in North Platte. Dorthe was born on March 28, 1922 in Chicago, IL to William and Clara (Sylvano) Affleck. She grew up in Chicago, graduating from high school there. Dorthe worked at various clerical jobs before moving with her family to Ogallala.
Dorthe met Mervin Jensen and the couple was married in Ogallala on June 17, 1950. They moved to Chappell, NE where she worked part time at Mervin’s insurance agency. She also owned a fabric shop for several years, was a past city councilwoman and a member of the Methodist Church. Dorthe was a welcoming person and loved to share her excellent cooking. She was very interested in other people and never knew a stranger.
Dorthe is survived by her sons Peter “Cory” (JoJo) Jensen of North Platte, Todd (Julie) Jensen of Aurora, NE; daughter Teresa Jensen; sister Mary Osterman of McCook, NE; grandchildren Tyler (Cara) Jensen of Wayne, NE, Kylie (Quintin) Penner of Lincoln, NE, Connor Jensen of Aurora, NE, Rebecka Jensen of Michigan, James Jensen of Kearney, NE, Matthew Jensen of Kearney, NE, Nichole Armentrout of Colorado, Jennifer (Robert) Maestas of Denver, CO, Jeremy (fiancé Lupe Comparan) Jensen of Sidney, NE, and Alexis Sherman of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren Tate Jensen of Wayne, NE, Noelleona Armentrout, Soriya Armentrout of Colorado, Alexis Maestas of Denver and Mark Jensen of Sidney, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mervin; brother William Affleck; and sister Emily Wlaschin.
A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church in Chappell or the Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte. On line condolences may be made at www.adamsswanson.com. Services will be Thursday October 18, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with the Reverend James Golka officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday October 17, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
