Barbara A. Shepherd, age 79 of North Platte, passed away October 13, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born November 7, 1932 in Gary, IN to Lloyd and Mildred (Petersen) DeCent.
Barbara did many things in her life including being a police woman in North Platte and a singer and entertainer (Bobbie Dee) in Las Vegas, NV. She moved back to North Platte from Las Vegas and earned her LPN license. She later went on to run an in-home day care and was also a foster parent. Children and singing were two things in life that she really enjoyed. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s choir and loved to quilt, and cook and read. She was known for taking in and caring for people who had no where to go. Life was not always easy for Barb but she always made the best out of what life handed her. She was a devout Catholic and her many nieces and nephews had a special place in her heart.
Barb is survived by her two sons Ronald (Angela) Hornyak of Sutherland and Jeffrey (Christine) Johansen of North Platte; six grandchildren Amanda, Nichole and Stephanie Hornyak, Ben Miller and Elizabeth and Ryker Johansen; one great grandson Easton Wood; and a sister Fran Wyman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Joann Monette and Edith Hasbrouck; and five brothers Lloyde E. DeCent, Jack William, Jr., James F. Decent, Dutch Shaffer, and Clyde “Butch” Shaffer.
