Charles E. “Chuck” Edwards, age 80, of North Platte, died October 14, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Chuck was born on September 8, 1932 in Cozad, NE to Edward N. and Eva (Kaiser) Edwards.
Chuck attended school in Cozad and North Platte, graduating from North Platte High School. He then began working for Hoppe Lumber until entering the U.S. Army on March 14, 1956. After his discharge on March 13, 1958, he returned to Hoppe Lumber where he worked until his health forced his retirement in 1991. He married Fran Krause in 1958. She preceded him in death in 1986. In 1995, Chuck married Doris Burch.
Chuck was a wonderful husband and father, always taking time for his boys. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, and for the wonderful care that he took of his mother and Aunt Max in their later years.
Survivors include his wife Doris of North Platte; a son, Rick Edwards of North Platte; a step-son, Danny Knuter of North Platte; three sisters, Mary DeLeFe of California, Barb (Dean) Eckel of Omaha, and Debbie (Bill) Volbreth of California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fran, a brother, Paul Edwards, and a brother-in-law, Ralph DeLeFe. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 17, 2012 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor Joe Sukraw officiating. Visitation will be noon to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
