Edward Carl Holys, Jr., age 66, of North Platte, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, NE. to Edward C. Sr. and Emma Marie (Novacek) Holys. Ed grew up in Cedar Rapids, NE., graduating from Cedar Rapids High School in 1964. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for a year before entering the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, MO for his basic training and served in Oklahoma and Alabama. After his discharge he returned to Cedar Rapids where he managed A Dee Honey Farms. He also worked with his parents in their family bar, Eddie’s Place. He was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, where he completed his sacraments. On October 25, 1975 he married Judith Kleve in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke, CO. The couple lived in Albion where they managed the Albion Country Club. They then moved to North Platte where Ed managed the North Platte Country Club for 17 years. Ed later managed the Airport Inn, working with Judy and the couple purchased the business in 1996, and have continued to operate it since.
Ed was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, past member of Holy Spirit Catholic church, member of Knights of Columbus #1211, always enjoying cooking for the fish fry’s. He was on the Religious Education Board at Holy Spirit, coordinating First Communion and bible school. He loved hunting and fishing until his health declined, enjoyed collecting coins and husker football. Ed prepared the pre-game meals for the St. Patrick’s football team for the past 16 years. He loved spending time with family, and volunteered as a room parent many times.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of North Platte; children, Brandi (Jeremy) Tumbleson of Belleview, NE, James Holys and Anthony Holys both of North Platte; sisters, Mary Kay Bykerk of Albion, NE, Betty (Dan) Mostek of Brandon, SD, Vicki (Mick) Enders of Billings, MT and Coni Wyatt of Exira, IA; special pet cat, Eclipse; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy; father-in-law, Darwin Kleve; grandparents, Jim and Mary Noracek and John and Catherine Maslanka.
In lieu o flowers memorials may be made to the North Platte Catholic Schools for the benefit of the football team or to the Hastings College foundation and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Christian Wake Service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be10:30 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend James Golka as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so noon until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
