Grand Island Boy Dies In ATV Crash

A 9-year-old Nebraska boy is dead following an all-terrain vehicle crash on private property near Grand Island.

The Hall County Sheriff’s office says Jack Tanner Thompson was driving the ATV Friday evening about a mile northwest of the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island when the crash happened.

Investigators say the boy lost control of the ATV. It crashed against a parked vehicle and came to rest on top of the boy.

He was taken by ambulance to a Grand Island hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wy. Girl Lured Into SUV To Help Find Lost Puppy

The FBI says authorities have arrested a man in connection with the kidnapping of a Wyoming girl.

The agency says in a statement Sunday evening that the man was arrested in Belgrade, Mont. The man’s identity and details of the arrest were not released.

Police say a man lured the 11-year-old girl from the town of Cody into his SUV last Monday by claiming he needed help finding a missing puppy. A group of hunters found the girl outside the town several hours later.

Officials will hold a news conference Monday morning in Cody to discuss the case.

Two Officers Dragged By Car Trying To Flee. One Officer Held On For 10 Blocks

Authorities say two officers have been treated at a hospital after being dragged by a car in Lincoln.

Police say the officers pulled over a car early Sunday morning. The officers say the car driver didn’t properly identify himself, so the officers tried to take him out of the car. That’s when the driver punched the accelerator and took off with the officers hanging on.

One officer let go after about 30 feet, but the other didn’t let go for about 10 blocks.

Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment and have been released.

No arrest has been reported, but police say investigators have a suspect.

The Denver Broncos wrap up Week Six in the NFL with their Monday night showdown in San Diego against the Chargers. Despite their 2-3 start, the Broncos can still gain an early advantage in the AFC West race tonight. A win would make them 2-0 against their divisional foes. The Chargers are already out to a 2-0 start in divisional play, but are just one game ahead of Denver in the AFC West standings with a 3-2 overall record. Both teams are coming off of defeats in Week Five. Denver lost at New England 31-21, while the Chargers fell at New Orleans 31-24. Neither the Broncos nor quarterback Peyton Manning have had recent success against San Diego. The Broncos have lost four of the last five meetings, and Manning has lost five of his last six starts against the Bolts. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action from Qualcomm Stadium tonight. Lady Knights Host EWC

The North Platte Community College Lady Knights begin the final week of their regular season tonight at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium against Eastern Wyoming College. The Lady Knights have already faced the Lady Lancers three times this season, winning twice. North Platte went 3-1 at the Jimmy Johns Invite in Columbus over the weekend to move back over the .500 mark at 16-15. First serve tonight is scheduled for 7 PM.

VOLLEYBALL: Lady Sailors Capture SPVA Crown

The Sutherland Sailors handed St. Pat’s their first loss of the volleyball season in the SPVA championship match on Saturday in Imperial. In five hard-fought sets, the Lady Sailors held off the Lady Irish 25-18, 15-25, 21-25, 30-28, 15-12. Sam Kennedy had 22 kills and Jalyne Schuster added 20 for the Lady Sailors in the win. The wins move Sutherland, the fourth-ranked team in Class D1 to 16-5 on the season, while the Lady Irish, number two in Class C2, drop to 21-1. In other SPVA action, Hershey beat Chase County in five sets in the third-place match, and Perkins County topped Maxwell in the fifth-place contest.

Kick Off Time Set For Husker Game Saturday

The start time and broadcast network for Nebraska’s clash with Northwestern this Saturday has been set. The Huskers and Wildcats will kick off at 2:30 PM at Ryan Field in Evanston. It will be televised regionally on ABC. Nebraska is looking to avenge last season’s loss to Northwestern. The Wildcats became the first bowl-eligible Big Ten team this season with a 21-13 win on Saturday over Minnesota that moved their record to 6-1. The Huskers come out of their bye with a 4-2 mark.

No. 3 Huskers Win Seventh Straight

The third-ranked Husker volleyball team polished off a winning weekend with a four-set victory over tenth-ranked Minnesota in the NU Coliseum on Sunday. After dropping the first set 18-25, the Huskers rebounded to win the next three sets 27-25, 25-23, and 23-16. Gina Mancuso led three Huskers in double figures with 14 kills. Hannah Werth added 11 kills and Hayley Thramer racked up 10 kills. The Huskers move to 15-2 on the year and extend their seven match winning streak. They are at Iowa Wednesday night.
