Bernard L. Green


Bernard L. Green, 92, passed away Nov. 12, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Bernard was born Feb. 29, 1920, at Amherst, to Donald Roy and Helen (Hubbard) Green. Bernard went to Amherst High School, then farmed with his father at Amherst until he hired on at the Union Pacific Railroad. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1944 and served until December 1948. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the family farm. He married Joyce Wilson Wuehler in 1964. He then returned to the Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1971. After retirement they moved to Hershey, where they had a small farm, which he enjoyed for 29 years. In 1994, they moved back to North Platte, where Bernard belonged to the VFW, DAV, American Legion and the United Transportation Union.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of North Platte; children, Larry B. (Lynne) Green, of Grove, Okla., Roger Green, of Jefferson City, Mo., Carol (Leroy) Hernandez, of Hershey, Richard (Micaela) Wuehler, of North Platte, Stephen H. Wuehler, of North Platte, Allan R. Green, of Madison, Gregory C. (Janet) Green, of Omaha, Kevin M. (Joan) Green, of Minatare; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, Myron Green, of Ivy, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Green, Morris Green, Frank Green and Rex Green; one son, Douglas A. Green, of Rollanobe, Texas; and a granddaughter, Sarah Christine (Hernandez) Nida, of North Platte.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov 15, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at LaMont Cemetery, Hershey, with military honors graveside. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences maybe shared at carpentermemorial.com.
