Anthony “Tony” Kalkowski


Anthony “Tony” Kalkowski, age 90, of North Platte, passed away November 23, 2012 at Bryan East Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. He was born June 10, 1922 on a farm south of Ashton, NE to Ignatz and Josephine Johns Kalkowski. Tony graduated from Rockville High School in 1939 and entered the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1940. He worked in the medical dispensary under Dr. Prasky at the camp in Bayard, NE. The camp broke up and was transferred to Omaha. Tony also worked at the Ordinance Plant at Grand Island. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. In the Navy he was a dental technician making dentures, partials and bridges.
After serving in the Navy, Tony opened a dental lab in Oakland, CA. His laboratory experience included services in laboratories in Oakland, San Francisco and Grand Island, NE. In 1954 he opened his own laboratory in North Platte located at 221 South Jeffers which he called Tony’s Dental Lab.
On November 7, 1957 he was appointed by Governor Victor E. Anderson to the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 163, past grand chief of the Train of Voyageur Militaire of the State of Nebraska, past president of the Cody Lions Club, member of B.P.O. E. North Platte Lodge 985 life member of the Knights of Columbus, and past president of the Nebraska Dental Lab Association. Tony’s Dental Lab was also a certified dental lab. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
Tony is survived by his wife, Marian of North Platte; one daughter, Tawny (Dave) Pope; two sons, Terry (Deb) Kruse and Tracy; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law, Verda Elliott.

Christian Wake Services will be 7:30 p.m. today at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Reverend James Novakowski as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors graveside. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
