Earlier this month convicted mother, Doris Herrin of Gothenburg, filed an appeal challenging her conviction of manslaughter because she believes she had ‘ineffective counsel’ before her conviction.
The 29-year-old mother is serving 18 to 20 years in prison after a 5 day trial in August. Prosecutors say that Herrin shook her three-year-old daughter, Misty, and hit her three times in the head. Misty was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and died after being taken off life support.
Herrin will work with a new defense attorney, appointed by the Dawson County District Court, because of her reason for the appeal which points at the guidance from her previous defense attorney.
