The City of Kearney Utilities Department and Midlands Contracting announce that beginning Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 56th Street will be reduced to one lane during the day time  hours from Cherry Avenue westward approximately ½ mile. Reducing 56th Street to one lane is required to allow for the construction of a 16-inch diameter water main along the south side of the street. 56th Street will be opened to two lanes during the evening and overnight each night that the work progresses.

During the construction motorists are asked to use an alternate route, if possible. If an alternate route is not possible, motorists are asked to expect delays, yield to oncoming traffic, watch for construction workers and equipment, and to follow the directions of flagmen at the site.

The water main construction should be completed by December 7, 2012, weather permitting.
