Changes Made To North Platte Schools Safety Protocol Creates A.L.I.C.E.

After the December 14th massacre at an elementary school in Connecticut which took the lives of many children, schools across the nation are reviewing security plans and procedure in response to the devastating event.

In North Platte, the protocol for responding to an active killer on school grounds has received additional components.

In November, school administrators and school resource officers were trained on the A.L.I.C.E. protocol for situations involving an active killer within school grounds. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform and Evacuate.

Officer Rodney Brown, PIO with the North Platte Police Department, tells North Platte Post that ‘Alert’ and ‘Lockdown’ have always been part of the protocol; they have simply included three new procedures that were not included before. “Here in North Platte we take it very serious,” Brown said, “We know just like anyone else [that] it could be our school, our children.”

A.L.I.C.E. will become part of North Platte schools sometime after the Christmas Break.
