Standing shoulder to shoulder at a season-ending press conference Tuesday, Denver Broncos vice president John Elway defended the in-game decisions of head coach John Fox. Fox has come under fire for some conservative play-calling in Denver’s shocking loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, particularly the decision to run out the clock and go to overtime after Baltimore tied the game with 31 seconds left in regulation. Fox and Elway said the team was ‘shocked’ by the Ravens’ score and, in Fox’s words, “it didn’t seem like the right time to go for the knockout punch.”
