John Elway has finished second a few times in his football life. He can add a second-place spot in voting for the NFL’s Executive of the Year Award to that list of runner-up finishes. Elway finished one vote behind Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson in the Sporting News’ poll of league executives. Grigson drafted Andrew Luck with the top overall pick and oversaw a nine-win turnaround in Indy, but Elway had a good case for the award as well after convincing Peyton Manning to come to Denver and increasing the Broncos’ win total by five from the previous year.
