A 29-year-old mother who rescued her son from a dog attack in Grand Island is recovering from wounds she suffered after the dog turned on her.
Authorities say Kayla Shoestring has been taken to a Lincoln hospital for treatment. Her 4-year-old son, Hayden, remained in a Grand Island hospital.
Central Nebraska Humane Society Executive Director Laurie Dethloff says the Shoestrings were visiting a Grand Island home on Monday when the boy went into the backyard with a male and female pit bull.
Hayden began screaming when the male attacked him. Kayla Shoestring ran outside and got Hayden away from the male dog, but the dog then attacked her. The female never joined the attacks.
The dogs’ owner has decided to have the male dog euthanized.
