Tragic Trend: House Fire Claims the Life of 85-Year-Old Woman

fireIn what seems to be a tragic trend, a house fire has taken the life of an Alma woman.

Nebraska authorities are investigating a house fire that killed an 85-year-old woman and injured a 57-year-old man.  The fire was reported in Alma, approximately 25 miles south of Holdrege, shortly before 8:oo Saturday morning.

The house was consumed by flames when firefighters arrived.  Once firefighters were able to gain entry, they found Lois Clifton dead inside the home. Her son, Kurt Peterson, was treated for minor injuries at the Harlan County Hospital.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nebraska Fire Marshall’s office.

There have been numerous fatal house fires reported across our State including one that killed an 8-year-old boy in Bellevue. The Post would like to remind our readers to use extreme caution and follow safety instruction when using space heaters, wood stoves and other heating devices during the cold winter months.
