A man has been given three to four years in prison for bilking homeowners out of thousands of dollars in a roof repair scam.

Local media reports that 29-year-old Jerry Hendon was sentenced on Friday in Madison County District Court.

Hendon told the judge that he doesn’t see himself as a con artist. Hendon was accused of promising to do repairs on the roofs of two homes but didn’t do the work.

Prosecutor Mike Long said he doubted Hendon’s word and noted that there is an active warrant out of Kentucky alleging similar charges.

Hendon also was ordered to pay a total of more than $5,000 in restitution.
