There’s some bad news for young drivers and their parents. Teen driving deaths increased 19-percent in the first six months of 2012. That’s more than double the percentage increase of overall traffic deaths, it’s revealed in a new report.

In the first half of 2012, there were 240 highway deaths of 16- and 17-year-old drivers. That’s up from 202 deaths during the same period in 2011, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association, based on initial information from their members.

If those figures pan out, it will be the second consecutive year teen driving deaths went up. Driving deaths of 16- and 17-year-old drivers were up three percent in 2011, marking the end of eight consecutive years when they were declining.
