Authorities say the driver of a pickup is dead after the vehicle collided with a semitrailer on Interstate 80 in south-central Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the fiery accident occurred Thursday morning between the Giltner interchange and Grand Island. The driver of the semitrailer was injured in the crash, which engulfed both vehicles in flames.

Authorities say the pickup was eastbound and drifted into the median. It then went into the westbound lanes and struck the semitrailer head on.

Westbound traffic that was initially diverted has now been reopened.

The patrol hasn’t yet released the names of anyone involved.
