(AP) — Members of the University of Nebraska at Kearney student government are collecting used sports equipment to donate to the Special Olympics.
Students have organized a local Play it Forward group to collect the equipment.
Organizer Katie Swett says the students are trying to raise enough equipment for participants in Special Olympics to be able to play more sports.
Stan Banks, who helps lead Kearney’s Special Olympics, says the chapter needs softball and baseball gloves, bats and tennis rackets because it’s hard for the athletes to afford the gear.
Banks also hopes to add tennis and softball to the Kearney Special Olympics.
