A rally will be held at the Nebraska Capitol this week to raise awareness about bullying.

The statewide Stand for the Silent anti-bullying awareness campaign will kick off on April 5 at the state Capitol. The public is invited to attend to show support for people who have been bullied.

Nebraska Sen. Amanda McGill of Lincoln will speak at the event. She says it’s time for the people of Nebraska to take a stand against bullying because it can lead to self-harm or suicide.

More than 60,000 Nebraska students made a pledge against bullying in 2012.

The rally will start at 8:30 p.m. on the north side of the Capitol.
