A North Platte who was evidently trying to be cute, now faces several felony charges.
On April 5, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a reckless driver traveling north from Wellfleet on Highway 83.
It was reported that a vehicle was passing cars, then slamming on the breaks after the pass.
Deputies responded and found the vehicle driving recklessly in excess of 100 mph. The vehicle finally came to a stop at Highway 83 and State Farm Road.
The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Barber, was contacted by deputies, who found reason to believe that he was intoxicated. Barber was then asked to perform several field sobriety maneuvers which confirmed their suspicions. A breath test showed that Barber was over three times the legal limit.
A citizen advised authorities that Barber had struck her vehicle while she was traveling down the highway, causing damage to her vehicle.
Barber’s driving privileges were limited to only driving vehicles with an Interlock Device in place after a recent drunken-driving conviction, however, the vehicle he was driving was not equipped with this equipment.
Barber was arrested and charged with Felon Driving Under the Influence (3rd Offense), Felony Driving without an Interlock Device, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Willful Reckless Driving.
He was booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center.
