Oregon Authorities Suspend Search for Lost Teen

oregon-missingThe search for an Oklahoma teenager who set out to test himself against the wilderness in the wilds of southeastern Oregon has been suspended indefinitely until conditions improve.

Sheriff Dave Glerup of Harney County, Ore., said Sunday that no search is planned until weather improves and snow begins to melt, allowing searchers to comb Steens Mountain.

Nineteen-year-old Dustin Self has been missing a month since setting out from his family home outside Oklahoma City.

Weather forced cancelled searches on Friday and Saturday.

Glerup says Self’s parents arrived at the scene Saturday and were taken to the location where Self’s pickup truck was found.

Glerup says he thinks Self is either dead or walked off the mountain and hitched a ride somewhere. He says they’ll decide by the week whether to resume the search, depending on weather.
