(AP) — A Kearney High School student could face a weapons charge and expulsion for having a big knife in his backpack.
The school summoned medical help on Tuesday afternoon for an unresponsive student. Police say that during the incident, an officer searched the boy’s backpack and found the knife.
The teen wasn’t taken to a hospital and soon was released to his parents.
Police are asking Buffalo County prosecutors to charge the boy with having a concealed weapon on school property.
School district policy says students who take weapons onto school properties must be expelled.
