The U.S. Forest Service has announced a $1 million energy efficiency renovation project for the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands headquarters in Chadron.
Chadron radio station KQSK-AM reports (http://bit.ly/10ikNeu) that the building also houses the Pine Ridge Ranger District offices.
The project consists primarily of replacing the heating and cooling system with a geothermal heat pump. It will begin in July and take about a year to complete.
Supervisor Jane Darnell says the 1985 building is the least energy-efficient Forest Service building in the agency’s five-state Region II district.
