NPCC Softball Suffers Losses Over the Weekend

The North Platte Community College Knights Softball team (4-37) fell on Saturday afternoon to Barton Community College 9-8 and 13-1. On Friday afternoon the Knights traveled to Scottsbluff where they fell twice to the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars 8-0 and 23-0.

In the opening game against Barton the Knights fell 9-8 after giving up five runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Knights 16 hits and scored eight runs. Barton scored two runs in the top of the second, but the Knights countered with two runs of their own. The Knights would tack on another run in the third and then added five more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 8-2 lead. Barton would answer with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to set up their five run top of the seventh to win the game.

In the second game Barton Community College defeated the Knights 13-1 in five innings behind 13 hits. Barton started out of the gate strong as they jumped to a 5-1 lead after one. Barton would tack on another run in the third before adding four in the fourth and three in the fifth to win the game. Katharine Savolt led the Knights from the plate as she went a perfect 3-3. The Knights had nine hits in the game.

The Knights fell to the Cougars on Friday in the opening game 8-0. Two pitchers combined for a perfect game for the Cougars as the Knights were unable to muster a single hit. In the second game of the doubleheader the Knights fell 23-0 as they gave up 23 hits including two home runs, a triple and six doubles while mustering only three hits. Tiffany Brasby, Briona Santovito and Rylee Murphy all had one hit for the Knights.

The Knights return to the diamond on Wednesday May 1 in their season and home finale as they take on Colby Community College in a double header at noon and 2 p.m. at the Dowhower Complex. The Knights then head to Columbus for the the Division II Region IX Tournament. The Knights will open the tournament against Southeast Community College at noon on Saturday May 4. Win or lose the Knights will play again on May 4 at 2:30 p.m.
