The man who was the voice of Charlie Brown in the first “Peanuts” television specials has pleaded guilty to threatening and stalking both his ex-girlfriend and a plastic surgeon who gave her a breast enhancement he paid for.

City News Service says 56-year-old Peter Robbins entered the plea Wednesday in a San Diego court and could get up to three years in prison at his sentencing next month.

Prosecutors say Robbins called his former girlfriend dozens of times a day and told her he would kill her and her son if she did not give back his dog and car.

They say he made similar threats and demanded a refund from the plastic surgeon.

Robbins provided the voice of the title character in 1965’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and 1966’s “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

Pelini, Martinez Speak on Spring

Husker head coach Bo Pelini and senior quarterback Taylor Martinez spoke to the media in a teleconference yesterday. Pelini spoke mostly about the defense, which remains the 2013 team’s biggest question mark exiting spring practice. He eased concerns about players who missed the spring game with injury, saying that linebacker David Santos and defensive linemen Greg McMullen and Vincent Valentine would be ready to go for the fall. Pelini also said he’s hoping for a big year from senior defensive end Jason Ankrah, and that freshman linebacker Jared Afalava opened some eyes with his performance in the spring. Martinez, who rarely participates in press events, spoke highly of the talent surrounding him on the offensive side of the ball, and says he expects to pass more often and be more comfortable in Tim Beck’s offense this coming season.

Rockies Routed, Swept in San Francisco

It got ugly in a hurry for the Colorado Rockies yesterday afternoon. Starting pitcher Jeff Francis didn’t make it through the second inning and the Rockies offense couldn’t dent the scoreboard in a 10-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants that completed a sweep for the defending champs. Errors of the mental and physical variety put the Rockies in a deep hole early. Francis was chased from the game after allowing seven runs, three unearned, in the first two frames. The Rockies managed just seven hits in the game, two from Chris Nelson. It’s the ninth straight time the Rockies have lost to the Giants, both in San Francisco and overall. After an off-day today, the Rockies will continue their West Coast road trip in San Diego against the Padres, and hope to recapture their early-season mojo against a team they swept in Denver last weekend.

A Lincoln woman has been given four to five years in prison in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl.

Twenty-four-year-old Ashley Jackson was sentenced Wednesday for the March 2012 overdose death of the girl, who was brought to Jackson’s home to babysit her infant twins.

Prosecutors say Jackson smoked methamphetamine and gave the girl and other people present alcohol and drugs. Police say Jackson left, and the girl was sexually assaulted by a 19-year-old man. She then died of a prescription drug overdose.

Jackson pleaded no contest to child abuse resulting in death in December. She was arrested in March on a warrant after she failed to show up for sentencing.

Nebraska’s Tax Receipts Down in March

Nebraska-Economic-Forecasting-Advisory-BoardNebraska’s net tax receipts in the month of March dipped below projections.

The state tax commissioner reported Wednesday that net receipts were $273 million, a little more than 6 percent below the state’s certified forecast.

The commissioner says net sales-and-use taxes, individual income taxes and net miscellaneous taxes were all below the forecast. Net corporate income taxes came in above the projections.

The comparisons in the report were based on a forecast made by the Nebraska Economic Forecasting Advisory Board in February 2012. The forecast was adjusted for bills that were passed last year.

Parents Hope Photo of Fatal Text Will Serve as a Warning

alexander-heit-textAlexander Heit’s final text cut off in mid-sentence. Before he could send it, police say the 22-year-old University of Northern Colorado student drifted into oncoming traffic, jerked the steering wheel and went off the road, rolling his car.

Heit died shortly after the April 3 crash in Greeley, but his parents and police are hoping the photo of the mundane text on his iPhone will serve as a stark reminder to drivers.

The photo, published Wednesday in The Greeley Tribune, shows Heit was responding to a friend by typing “Sounds good my man, seeya soon” followed by a few letters before crashing.

In a statement released through police, Heit’s mother says texting while driving can “tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you.”
