Jerold James Eldred, age 85, of North Platte, passed away May 12, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 11, 1928 in Kearney, Nebraska to Robert and Veda (Deets) Eldred.
Jerold attended school in Kearney. He worked in the shipyards in California before entering the U.S. Navy where he was a submariner. He returned to North Platte where he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for the next 38 years as a Brakeman and Conductor. Jerold married Maureen Bennett on November 10, 1980. He enjoyed history, westerns, boxing and football. Jerold was also an avid collector of train memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife Maureen of North Platte; four children, Trina (Barry) Smalley of South Carolina, Gene Rundquist of North Platte, Barry (DeAnna) Goen of South Carolina, and Linda (Dale) Larson of North Patte; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and special cousins, Robert “Butch” (Susan) Deets. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Terry Eldred, and a daughter, Pam Eldred Miller. A memorial has been established in his name and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Services will be 2:00 p.m Wednesday May 15, 2013 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Richard Karr officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full military honors. The register book may be signed today from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
