Authorities say a man suspected of abducting two girls from an Iowa bus stop has been found dead, and one of the girls is still missing.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 42-year-old Michael Klunder was found dead Monday night at a rural property near Dayton, about 60 miles north of Des Moines. His cause of death hasn’t been released.

Klunder is on Iowa’s sex offenders list, and he served several years in prison on kidnapping charges.

He’s accused of abducting a 15-year-old and 12-year-old on Monday. The 12-year-old escaped and told authorities they’d been taken to an agricultural facility after accepting a ride from a stranger.

A large search is underway for 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard. Authorities released her name and photo in an effort to find her alive.
