(AP) — Veterinarians have been able to save the leg of a 9-month-old puppy shot by intruders during a home invasion in north Omaha last week.
Police were called to the home on May 16 for a report of a robbery in progress. The couple at the home said two men forced their way into the home, and one of them shot Rex — a Husky/Akita mix.
The bullet went through the dog’s leg, shattering the bone.
Rex had surgery on Tuesday, and he’s scheduled to return home on Friday, where he’ll need to rest for eight weeks.
Hearts United for Animals is paying for the dog’s veterinary expenses.
