NE State Patrol Investigating Crash Between School Bus and Semi

state-patrol-logoThe Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the crash of a school bus and a semi-trailer truck, four miles west of Norfolk in Madison County.

The accident, involving a Mid-States school bus transporting students from Battle Creek Public Schools, and a semi- truck occurred around 7:15 a.m., Monday, May 6, at the intersection of Highway 275 and 549 Avenue.  The crash investigation indicates the school bus was northbound on 549 Avenue when it proceeded north across the highway colliding with a westbound semi-trailer truck. The impact forced the school bus into the ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection with the semi coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

There were 13 students and one driver on the bus, with eight students transported to Faith Regional Medical Center in Norfolk.  Of the eight students transported, two were seriously injured. The two seriously injured students were transferred by ambulance from the Norfolk hospital to medical facilities in Omaha. The names of the students are not being released at this time.  The other six students received minor injuries and are expected to be treated and released.

The driver of the school bus, Larry Prauner, 73, Battle Creek, and the driver of the semi, Stanley Jauer, 63, Hinton, Iowa, were not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash with heavy fog in the area at the time.

Nebraska Travel Panel Makes Plans for a Big Year

NEBRASKA_TOURThe Nebraska Travel Commission says its goals for this summer’s travel season could help the state surpass last year’s success.

The commission estimated $3.1 billion in total direct travel spending in Nebraska last year, a 5.6 percent increase over 2011.

Among the commission’s goals for the 2013 season is raising participation in tourism passport programs offered statewide and locally. More than 19,000 people from Nebraska, 11 other states and two foreign countries picked up the passports last year. The promotional tools offer discounts and prizes at participating businesses.

The state program offers prizes for redeemed stamps from the 80 participating attractions. A partnership with the Nebraska Hotel & Motel Association will provide discounts to passport participants who mention the program when making reservations.

Bill Clinton Tried to Broker Led Zeppelin Reunion

led-zeppelin(AP) — It’s a diplomatic failure at the highest level: Bill Clinton couldn’t get Led Zeppelin to reunite.

The CBS “60 Minutes” webcast reported Monday that the former president was enlisted to ask the British rock gods to get back together last year for the Superstorm Sandy benefit concert in New York City. He asked, they said no.

David Saltzman of the Robin Hood Foundation says he and film executive Harvey Weinstein flew to Washington to ask Clinton to make the plea. Led Zeppelin’s surviving members Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page were in Washington just before the Sandy concert for the Kennedy Center Honors.

Led Zeppelin last played publicly at a one-night reunion in London in 2007.
