Henrietta Katherine Zickefoose Trumbull Pfeiffer, 95, of Gandy, NE, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte, NE.
Henrietta was born May 25, 1918, to Samuel Henry and Edith May Berkey Zickefoose north of Stapleton, NE where she grew up. She graduated from Stapleton High School in 1936. Henrietta then worked for Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Trumbull as a caregiver.
On October 22, 1940, Henrietta married Douglas Leigh Trumbull in North Platte. They lived in Logan and McPherson Counties where they ranched in the Sandhills. In 1960 they moved to Tryon, NE because of Douglas’ failing health. He died in 1963 and Henrietta continued to live in Tryon until 1966 when she moved to North Platte. Here she worked for Leo’s Flowers, Gibson’s and Woolworth’s.
On December 17, 1973, Henrietta married George Ivan Pfeiffer in Broken Bow, NE and she moved to his ranch in McPherson County. She was his ranching partner until the sale of the ranch in 1998 when they moved to Gandy and that is where she lived the remainder of her life. Henrietta was known for her love of playing pitch. She played her last cards on Mother’s Day, and won. She always had a love for flowers and had a green thumb.
Henrietta is survived by her daughters, Kay Boyer (friend, Dennis Ferguson) and Nancy Munson (friend, Randal Olson), of North Platte; her son-in-law, Gerald (Donna) Barnum, of Gandy; eight grandchildren, Pamela (Rod) Schaeffer, of Stapleton, Blake Barnum, of North Platte, Russell (Connie) Barnum, of Stapleton, Geraldine (Carl) Gurnsey, of Gering, NE, Stacey (J.C.) Calhoun, of Cozad, NE, Troy (Carla) Barnum, of Stapleton, Kelly Boyer, of North Platte and Misti Munson, of Minneapolis, MN; 28 great-grandchildren; 24 great great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Douglas Trumbull and George Pfeiffer; her daughter, Patricia Barnum; a son-in-law, Jimmy “Jim” LaMoyne Boyer; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Nataka Gurnsey; her parents, Samuel and Edith Zickefoose; six sisters, Marjorie McCamley, Rama Wright, Lola Boyer, Irene Zickefoose, Thelma McAulliff and Elma Shimmin; three brothers, Vernon, Glen and Pet Zickefoose.
Graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, in the Miller Cemetery at Tryon with Pastor John Lewis officiating. Per her request, viewing is for family only. The family requests no flowers. The memorial book may be signed from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in North Platte or at the graveside.
