(AP) — City officials believe a lightning strike caused a large chunk of decorative concrete to tumble 11 stories down to a sidewalk in Lincoln.
Part of a 50-pound vase-shaped piece of concrete shattered a section of sidewalk when it landed far below on the night of May 29.
City fire inspector Chuck Schweitzer said if someone had been below when the concrete hit, “It definitely would have been an injury problem.”
A thunderstorm was rumbling through the area when a resident of the downtown Georgian Place condo heard a crack. The damage was found at the base of the historic building at 11th and P streets.
