(AP) — A stranded fisherman has been rescued from canal rocks in North Platte.
Officials say fire and rescue workers helped David Van Westen, a Long Beach, Calif., man who has been traveling with his wife in their recreational vehicle. He’d gone fishing Monday morning in the canal on the south side of North Platte.
He got onto the rocks, but then the water level rose as the upstream spillway opened. Van Westen texted his wife, who called 911.
A rope was strung across the canal, and a Lincoln County Dive Team member helped Van Westen off the rocks and out of the water to safety.
