(AP) — A 6-year-old boy has been injured in a fire at an apartment on the southwest side of Kearney.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department says firefighters were dispatched around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday and had the flames under control about 15 minutes later.

The boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of a minor burn on one of his feet. The department says the boy’s 4-year-old brother started the fire on a blanket while playing with a lighter.

Smoke forced some residents of the apartment building to find other shelter for the night.
