(AP) — Omaha’s zoo has a new resident with an unusual name.

The short-beaked echidna is on display for the first time at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.

The animal, which is native to Australia, was brought to the Omaha zoo on May 7, 2013.

The zoo says the animal weighed 13 pounds when it arrived.

The animals are known for their unusual features, including an elongated skull and distinctive snout that is about 12 to 18 inches in length.

Short-beaked echidnas are the most widely distributed mammals in Australia, where they can live in deserts, grasslands and alpine areas.
