The North Platte Community College Softball team announced the addition of four new players for the 2013-14 season. Jazmin Chang of Lahainaluna High School in Hawaii, Tara Christiansen of Ashland-Greenwood High School, Ashley Frolio of Omaha North and Brittney Odum of Cherokee Trail High School in Colorado are the newest members of Knights softball team.
Chang joins the Knights after competing at Lahainaluna High School in Maui, Hawaii in softball and volleyball. Chang was the MIL D1 Softball Champions in 2011 and 2012 as well as making it to the State Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013. She received MIL D1 All-star Honorable Mention in 2012.
“I’m excited as I cross another milestone and look towards my future,” said Chang. “I have lived on the islands all my life, and I feel moving somewhere out of Hawaii will bring great opportunities. North Platte Community College will be a wonderful place to start my journey as a lifelong learner.”
Christiansen joins the Knights after finishing her senior year at Ashland-Greenwood High School in Nebraska. Christiansen participated in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), choir, play production and softball. She lettered in Varsity softball her sophomore, junior and senior season. Christiansen was voted by her teammates to win the Leadership Award both her junior and senior season along with being named a captain her senior year.
“I was more than happy to accept to play for NPCC not only for the softball program, coaches and their passion to be leaders on and off the field, but for the academic program as well,” said Christiansen.
Frolio joins the Knights after spending her freshman year at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She attended high school at Omaha North where she played softball, basketball and soccer for all four years.
“I chose NPCC because of how small it is,” said Frolio. “The school was the perfect size for me. I loved every part of North Platte and can’t wait to start in the fall.”
Odum joins the Knights after prepping at Cherokee Trails High School in Aurora, Colo. She earned three varsity letters in softball and was named the 2012 Defensive MVP.
“I chose NPCC not only because of the thought of playing college ball itself,” said Odum “but also because of how much of a family the team is. North Platte will allow me to make my dreams of playing college softball a reality.”
