A former western Nebraska bank executive has received a 3 ½-year prison sentence after admitting that he embezzled more than $1.4 million.
Matthew Monheiser will begin serving his sentence on Aug. 28.
U.S. District Court Judge John Gerrard also ordered the 38-year-old Monheiser to spend five years on supervised release once his prison term ends, and repay the amount he embezzled with interest.
Monheiser has already paid back $500,000 to the former First National Bank in Sidney, now known as Points West Community Bank. He has agreed to pay $1.5 million in restitution, counting the interest.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Everett says Monheiser took the money between March 2003 and August 2012 from the bank branch, which he managed.
