New Nebraska Research Center to Study Concussions

ConcussionLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Concussion research will be one of the primary functions of the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, which opens later this month at the University of Nebraska.

The center is housed in the new $55 million building attached to Memorial Stadium that holds 38 luxury suites and an additional 6,000 seats for the football stadium.

The center is the latest university-affiliated research facilities looking for better ways to diagnose and treat traumatic head injuries and make football and other sports safer. Center director Dennis Molfese said one of the projects is the development of a device that gives medical personnel the ability to accurately assess the severity of a concussion right on the sideline.
