The North Platte First Nationals split a double header on Saturday at Sherman, before dropping a Sunday contest in Lincoln.
The First Nationals played U Stop in game one on Saturday and lost 5-0. U Stop didn’t waste any time in getting on the board with two runs in the first and second innings and their final run in the third.
North Platte only had two hits in the game. Drew Beyer and Jack Kenny each singled and Kenny added a stolen base.
Ty Brockmoller pitched the complete game for the First Nationals and gave up the five runs with four of them earned on seven hits while striking out five batters.
In the second game on Saturday North Platte earned a shutout of its own with a 4-0 win over Millard South.
The game was scoreless going to the fifth inning when the First Nationals scored three runs to take the lead. North Platte scored its fourth run in the seventh inning and had 12 hits in the game. The team was led by Kenny and Alex Harms with three hits each. Harms had a double and an RBI while Kenny added another stolen base for his 13th of the season.
On the mound it was Ben Sukraw who got the job done with the complete game shutout. Sukraw only allowed five hits, all of them singles, in the game. He also helped out his own cause with a two-hit day at the plate, including a double and an RBI.
In the final game of the weekend North Platte lost to Lincoln Northeast 8-2 in a Sunday contest.
The First Nationals struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Lincoln NE countered with four runs in the bottom half and never looked back.
Sukraw and Kenny each had two singles for North Platte’s only hits in the game. Luke Volz started on the mound and exited after giving up eight runs, seven of them earned, in three and two-thirds innings worked. Riley Vierya came in for the final two and a third innings and didn’t give up a run.
