Protruding Metal Damages Cars on I-80

NDOR(AP) — Nebraska transportation officials have restricted lanes on a part of Interstate 80 in Omaha because a chunk of protruding metal was damaging moving vehicles.

The Nebraska Department of Roads says the piece of metal was covering a seam between a bridge and road on the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near 42nd Street on Monday. Officials say moving vehicles forced the metal to pop up and out of the seam.

The metal damaged about a dozen cars, including flattened tires. No major injuries have been reported.

Transportation crews are using a temporary patch with asphalt to cover the hole.
