ESPN had its annual ESPY awards Wednesday night and a young boy from Atkinson, Nebraska took home some hardware from the award show.
Jack Hoffman has touched the state and nation with his story of battling cancer for the past few years. The seven year old Hoffman has had opportunities to meet his favorite Husker football player, Rex Burkhead over the last two years. But the football program wanted to do something special for him.
In this year’s spring game Hoffman dressed for the red team at Memorial Stadium and was put in at running back for one play. Hoffman faked left then went right after having the ball handed to him by Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez and Hoffman took it to the house for the touchdown with the Huskers team following behind.
That moment won the award for the ESPY’s best moment in sports for the past year.
